Karkwa have won the Canadian equivalent of the Mercury Prize for their album 'Les Chemins De Verre'.
Called the Polaris Prize, the jury led contest featured 10 finalists, including the like of Caribou, The Besnard Lakes, Tegan and Sara and Broken Social Scene, with the Montreal group bagging the $20,000 prize and coveted title.
"That's weird, that's very strange," the band said after being awarded the prize. "We're holding a cheque for $20,000 and we don't understand anything."
Formed in 1998, 'Les Chemins De Verre' is the band's fourth full-length studio effort.
Last year Fucked Up scooped the coveted award and prize money for their album 'The Chemistry Of Common Life'.
The winner of 2010's Barclaycard Mercury Prize in the UK was The xx for their debut album 'xx'.
