TIFF to open Bell Lightbox with a block party and a few Polaris Prize nominees
On September 12, the Toronto International Film Festival will publicly unveil its new castle, the TIFF Bell Lightbox, with a free block party in Toronto’s entertainment district.
Complimenting a variety of activities outdoors at street level – including several musical acts and a family zone screening The Wizard of Oz – the public will also be granted access to the just-finished interior, where free screenings will run between 11-4 (a complete schedule follows).
The party will also feature a nice bit of Canadian cultural synergy, as the lineup will feature a trio of acts nominated for this year’s Polaris Music Prize: Karkwa, Radio Radio and The Sadies – all of whom will be vying for the prize on September 20.
At 3pm, the organizers promise a surprise guest, “one of Canada’s hottest global superstars introduced by CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos.”
