After seeing KO, it was off to the Island Stage to catch the Quebecois band, Karkwa (a phonetic rendering of the French word carquois meaning quiver of arrows). What peaked my interest to see this band in the first place was that they were the winners of the 2010 Polaris Prize for ‘Best Album of the Year’, the first francophone band to ever win this award. Karkwa was a delight, and probably the best performance I saw that night. They had the whole crowd up on their feet dancing with their brand of indie rock and were unnecessarily apologetic for their English skills between sets. All in all they were incredible and I can’t wait for them to return to Toronto to share their talent.
